When it comes to seaside destinations, there’s one location that attracts us Brits more than anywhere else on the planet…The Mediterranean.

With a fantastic climate, gorgeous coastline, rich history and diverse collection of cultures, it’s no wonder we’re drawn to the shores of the Med.

Bordered by Europe, Africa and Asia, this “sea in the middle of the land” has a coastline stretching 28000 miles and attracts a staggering one third of the world’s international tourists.

In the first programme of this new series, architectural designer Charlie Luxton heads to Spain and the uber-cool island of Ibiza. The third largest of the Balearic Islands it’s been a magnet for clubbers and a mecca for dance aficionados since the 1980s.

Episode 2 Croatia

This week architectural designer Charlie Luxton’s tour of the Med sees him travel to Croatia and its stunning Dalmatian coast and islands. Wracked by war just over two decades ago, Croatia is now an up and coming tourist destination – especially the rocky coast of Dalmatia and the adjacent islands.

In the third programme of the series, architectural designer Charlie Luxton heads to Spain and the beautiful island of Mallorca. The largest of the Balearic Islands, it’s shaking off the shackles of mass tourism to attract a more upmarket clientele. Charlie is concentrating on Mallorca’s picturesque and unspoiled Western coast.

In the fourth programme of the series, architectural designer Charlie Luxton is off to Italy and the amazing Amalfi Coast. Just 40 miles long it’s a quintessentially Mediterranean mix of sparkling seas and rocky shores as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the fifth programme of the series, architectural designer Charlie Luxton is in Malta investigating homes on its wonderful shoreline. At just 122 square miles Malta is smaller than the Isle of Wight, with a population about the same as the city of Liverpool. It’s a tiny but undoubtedly vibrant nation.

Episode 6 Costa blanca

In the final programme of the series, architectural designer Charlie Luxton is on the Costa Blanca exploring the best homes on its 120-mile long stretch. The “White Coast” takes its name from the beaches that dot its shoreline - although the term Costa Blanca only came to the fore as an airline marketing tool in the 1950s. It’s famous for its package holidays but there’s a lot more to see than that might suggest..
